AMSC

What is AMSC?
The Antwerp Medical Students’ Congress (AMSC) is our annual international student congress, organised entirely by (medical) students from the University of Antwerp and held on our campus, Campus Drie Eiken. Traditionally, the congress takes place in the second week of September and lasts three to four days.
It offers students from the paramedical and medical sectors (medicine, pharmaceutical sciences, dentistry, biomedical sciences and nursing) a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences with students from all over the world.
During the AMSC, participants are offered a rich and varied programme of inspiring lectures and interactive workshops delivered by experienced doctors, researchers and experts from a wide range of medical disciplines. The topics may vary each year, but always form a fascinating, impressive and diverse mix.
Active participants also have the chance to showcase their own research, both through oral presentations and poster sessions, and stand a chance of winning a great prize. All sessions are conducted in English, making the conference accessible to students from all over the world.

What does the working group do?
The AMSC working group operates somewhat differently from most working groups within EMSA. With our own enthusiastic board that works hard all year round, we work together towards one major goal: organising an unforgettable and inspiring international conference.
As a board member, you’ll be at the very heart of the AMSC. You’ll help shape the conference from start to finish: from the initial ideas right through to the moment everything comes to life. The board includes the following roles: secretaries, treasurer, logistics officers, workshops officers, public relations officer (covering partners, ambassadors, social media and sponsor officers), graphic designer and, last but not least, our IT officer. A board member can take on one major role or combine several smaller roles, depending on their interests and availability.
Does a board role seem a bit too much, but does the AMSC appeal to you? Then you can join as a helper. Helpers are not part of the board, but help out with great enthusiasm during the conference itself, thereby contributing to the unique, vibrant AMSC atmosphere. Details on how to apply will follow later this academic year via the EMSA channels.
The (vice) presidents fulfil the role of ‘working group leaders’. They lead the team, maintain external contacts and have ultimate responsibility for resolving critical issues.
